Today our team at Brookfield Road Dental at Kenmore will be doing our CPR update.  This is a continuing professional development requirement for us as a dental practice but really is a no brainer if it ever came to an emergency situation anywhere in the community where our first aid knowledge was to be the difference between life and death.

An automated external defibrillator or AED is an essential tool in first aid and resuscitation.  According to the Heart Foundation, when CPR is performed and an AED is used within the first three to five minutes of a cardiac arrest, a person’s chance of survival increases up to 70 per cent.  An AED will talk you through what to do in simple steps, yet alarmingly figures from The Heart Foundation’s State of the Heart Survey 2025 found that 39% of respondents were “not at all confident using an AED”.

AED’s are increasingly becoming a common site at beaches and other public spaces like shopping centres as well as workplaces.  Ask yourself, is it worth getting some basic training if you could potentially use that to save a loved one?  You don’t need to be a health professional to use an AED.  A quick Google search will put you in touch with a local CPR training provider.
