Diabetes and Your Dental Health

Last year we wrote about the importance of maintaining healthy teeth and gums for those living with diabetes. There is more evidence now of the two-way relationship between Diabetes and gum disease.

Not only can Diabetes Mellitus can increase the development and severity of Periodontal (gum disease), but the presence of gum disease can worsen the ability to control blood sugar levels in diabetic patients.

It is important that people living with diabetes have a team approach to managing their condition that includes both Medical and Dental specialist and general practitioners.
